Cellist Nicky Swett performs throughout the Chicago area. For the 2017-2018 season, he is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and serves as a Civic Engagement Fellow. He also performs and records with his brother, double bassist Willie Swett, in duo VC/CB. Nicky loves giving lecture-recitals and providing audiences with non-traditional program notes that range from poetry to colorful diagrams to animations. His interactive concert/marathon of all of J.S. Bach’s Solo Cello Suites played in reverse, “Falling Bachwards,” received the Highest Honor in Research from Northwestern University’s Comparative Literature department. He graduated from Northwestern in 2016 with a B.A. and M.A. in Comparative Literature and a B.M. in Cello Performance studying with Hans Jensen. His previous teachers include Deborah Park, Jennifer Jahn, and Daniella Bellavia. He plays on a 2011 Bernt-Dimbath cello.
What is your favorite musical memory? Playing Bach and Ligeti for an incredibly excited and supportive audience in a small seaside church in Phippsburg, Maine
